The XWiki Team

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with OpenProject, the company developing the leading open-source project management software!  This multi-level partnership expands the reach of our relation to a new level, by formalizing our commitment to the development of integrations between our software, and enabling us to resell our support offerings.

In today’s geopolitical landscape, concerns about digital sovereignty and data privacy are growing rapidly. More companies are actively seeking alternatives to proprietary software stacks that may jeopardize their control over data and digital assets. Our partnership was a natural progression, given that both XWiki and OpenProject are deeply committed to the same core values: building open-source software that empowers users to reclaim control over their digital stack.

Together, XWiki and OpenProject provide a powerful open-source alternative to Atlassian’s Confluence and Jira. XWiki delivers a flexible, extensible knowledge management platform that serves as a true alternative to Confluence in collaborative documentation and team knowledge sharing. When it comes to OpenProject, its full-featured project management and issue tracking capabilities act as a strong Jira alternative. This partnership will offer organizations an integrated, open-source stack. It's a privacy-respecting, vendor-neutral solution for teams seeking to move away from proprietary tools without compromising on functionality or user experience.

Our shared values

This partnership goes beyond a commercial agreement, because it builds on shared cultural and technical foundations. Both XWiki and OpenProject have long advocated for open-source alternatives in the workplace, fostering a culture of transparency, collaboration, and user empowerment.

Our collaboration also continues the momentum started with initiatives like the openDesk project, a customizable office and collaboration suite. This project was born from the joint efforts of European open-source leaders, united in their mission to advance digital sovereignty and promote open standards. The openDesk initiative is led by the Center for Digital Sovereignty (ZenDiS).

Our partnership with OpenProject is a natural extension of a shared commitment to building open, sovereign digital infrastructure for Europe and beyond. At the same time, it’s a strong affirmation of our joint vision: delivering integrated, open-source solutions that respect user freedom and data sovereignty. By combining our expertise, we’re creating a compelling alternative to Atlassian's Jira and Confluence: one that puts control and transparency back into the hands of the user. It’s a step forward for open-source collaboration in Europe, and most importantly, it responds directly to what our customers have been asking for. - Ludovic Dubost, CEO and Founder of XWiki SAS and CryptPad

This partnership strengthens the open-source ecosystem and marks an important step for organizations to move away from Atlassian — toward digital sovereignty and independence. We are delighted to have XWiki as an experienced and committed partner at our side that shares the same vision and values to further advance open and sovereign software solutions. - Niels Lindenthal, CEO, OpenProject GmbH

What this means for our customers

There has been significant demand from customers for this integration, and we have carefully incorporated their feedback to ensure the solution aligns with their expectations. We remain committed to working closely with our mutual customers to continuously enhance the offering.

Through this initiative, we stay true to our open-source principles and community collaboration, while we continue to deliver software features that cater to real-world needs.

  • Ongoing integration development: We are actively working on a roadmap to develop tight integrations between our platforms, enhancing user experience and interoperability.

  • Mutual support reselling: This partnership enables us to resell each other’s solutions, providing customers with more comprehensive and accessible options.

  • Expanded ecosystem: Customers can benefit from complementary solutions that work hand in hand, backed by 2 leading open-source communities. Moreover, both XWiki and OpenProject have partnerships with other key open-source players like Nextcloud, so this alliance expands even more the ecosystem available to our customers.
