This month, we’re excited to announce a milestone we’re incredibly proud of—XWiki turns 20! It’s hard to believe that two decades have passed since we first embarked on this journey to create a truly open-source platform that empowers people and organizations to share knowledge and collaborate. What began as a bold idea back in 2004 has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined, and today, we stand proud of the community, innovation, and growth that have defined XWiki’s evolution.
But this moment isn’t just about looking back—it’s about celebrating everyone who’s been part of the journey. Whether you’re a client, partner, contributor, or a member of our incredible team, we wouldn’t be here without you. Your trust and collaboration have shaped XWiki into the platform it is today, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support.
Reflecting on the journey
Looking back, the path hasn’t always been easy. Like any long journey, we’ve faced our share of challenges, learned tough lessons, and adapted to change. But through it all, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to open-source values. XWiki was built on the belief that transparency and collaboration create better software, and we’ve seen firsthand how open-source innovation can unlock possibilities we never thought possible.
Our growth has been fueled by the relationships we’ve built along the way. From clients who have pushed us to be better, to partners who have inspired us with their expertise, to the community of developers and contributors who continue to help us innovate, we owe so much of our success to you.
Ludovic Dubost, our Founder and CEO, often says:
It’s not just about the technology—it’s about the people who make it possible.
And it’s true. The XWiki journey has always been about community and the incredible things we can achieve when we work together.
A special celebration
To mark this milestone, we’ll be bringing our community together for a very special XWiki Party on September 19th in Paris. It’s going to be more than just a celebration—it’s a chance to connect, learn, and shape the future of XWiki together.
The day will be packed with exciting presentations from our team and partners, including use cases from clients like HLS and SFR, along with a keynote from Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud. We’ll also dive into the future of XWiki with interactive workshops where we’ll explore new features, upcoming research projects, and ways to keep improving the platform. It’s an opportunity to not just celebrate the past, but to look forward with excitement to what’s next.
Looking ahead to the future
As we celebrate 20 years, we are more excited than ever about the road ahead. The world of open source is evolving, and XWiki SAS is ready to grow with it. We’re working on some truly cutting-edge projects, including WAISE, which brings the power of AI into open-source collaboration. At the same time, we remain deeply committed to ensuring that privacy, transparency, and digital sovereignty remain at the heart of everything we do.
We also continue to invest in CryptPad, our encrypted collaboration platform, because we believe that privacy-first solutions are more important now than ever.
Our goal is to continue creating ethical, sustainable software that serves the needs of our community. We are excited for the next chapter and all the possibilities it holds. Ludovic Dubost, Founder and CEO of XWiki
A heartfelt thank you
As we step into the next 20 years, we want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person that has been part of this journey. Whether you’ve contributed code, shared feedback, or simply used our software, you’ve played a role in shaping XWiki, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Your collaboration, feedback, and belief in open source have been the foundation of our success.
Here’s to the next 20 years of innovation, collaboration, and open-source success. We can’t wait to see what the future holds, and we’re thrilled to continue this journey with all of you by our side.
