Following Atlassian's significant price increase, the University of Lorraine wiki team sought a new solution to replace Confluence. They needed a knowledge base that could also serve as an intranet for collaborative editing and documentation, ensuring smooth data transfer and accessibility for staff, teachers, and students. After evaluating various options, XWiki emerged as the only software capable of meeting their specific requirements amidst financial constraints.
The University of Lorraine's wiki team utilized XWiki’s Confluence Migrator (Pro) to efficiently and accurately transfer over 145,000 pages, 17,000 users, and 315 spaces. The XWiki Client team additionally provided development services for 2 new extensions:
- the URL Shortener Application for improved navigation;
- the Location Search Macro for enhanced search capabilities.
The XWiki team also offered online training sessions, dedicated technical support, and change management services, including a shared GitLab space for transparent issue tracking and resolution. The transition from Confluence to XWiki significantly improved the University of Lorraine's intranet capabilities, providing enhanced data and hosting control, increased flexibility, customization, and full alignment with their academic and administrative needs.
"The XWiki migration tool is constantly evolving and they are adding features requested by different customers. We appreciate how easy it is to understand the management of access rights, especially when compared to Confluence." - Camille Herry, Systems and Network Administrator
