We’re racing toward the end of the year and wrapping up another quarter of updates and improvements!
In today's article, you’ll discover new editors, performance boosts, UI improvements, integration tools, and stability enhancements, all designed to make your XWiki experience faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.
Without further ado, let's get into it. (For easier reading, click on the topic of interest in the table of contents below.)
XWiki standard
#1 New BlockNote editor
We are experimenting with a brand-new, open-source, Notion-style editor for XWiki: BlockNote. Built as a modern, block-based text editor, it’s designed to eventually replace CKEditor 4. This new editor offers a fresh, batteries-included editing experience that follows modern standards.
Right now, the editor is available for advanced users who want to explore and test the 2 new editors options: standalone and in place. But don't worry, soon all XWiki users will benefit from this major step forward.
💡 Try it by installing the BlockNote Integration extension.
#2 Faster performance across the platform
We’ve improved notifications and icon rendering, making them faster and more responsive. These optimizations mean:
- Pages load faster.
- UIs that rely heavily on icons benefit from better performance.
👉 Check out the release notes for notifications and icons for more details.
#3 UI improvements
We’ve also focused on usability:
- Live Data pagination has been standardized to ensure it looks and feels consistent with the Flamingo Skin.
- The macro configuration UI in the WYSIWYG editor has been revamped for easier and more intuitive configuration.
These changes make navigation and editing in XWiki more seamless and visually aligned with the rest of the platform.
💡 Enjoy the usability improvements!

XWiki Cloud
Upgraded to version 16.10.9
All XWiki Cloud instances were upgraded to version 16.10.9, which includes bug fixes and improvements like better caching of resources. We regularly upgrade cloud instances so clients and testers always benefit from the latest fixes and enhancements.
👉 We're always happy to hear your thoughts. Let us know what you would like us to introduce or improve in XWiki Cloud.
Pro Applications
#1 Interactive checkboxes and smoother Confluence task migration
The Task Manager (Pro) now includes a checkbox macro, allowing you to add interactive checkboxes directly in wiki pages. This update also enables you to migrate Confluence tasks into XWiki checkboxes, providing a seamless and familiar experience for teams transitioning from Confluence. Last but not least, the checkbox macro is customizable and integrates with XWiki's task management workflows.
💡 To try out the new checkbox macro, simply install Task Manager (Pro) in your XWiki instance and generate a free trial from the License section.

#2 Team calendars, favorites import, and improved migration experience
The Confluence Migrator (Pro) now supports team calendar migrations, making it easier for you to transfer scheduled events and deadlines from Confluence to XWiki. This new feature ensures continuity of scheduling and project timelines for your team, reducing the need for manual re-entry of events.
You can also import Confluence favorites, so you can pick up where you left off without delays. Additionally, by migrating favorites, the user workflows are preserved, easing your transition to XWiki.
Accessibility and UI improvements make the migration process more intuitive and user-friendly.
💡 To try out the new features and improvements, install Confluence Migrator Toolkit in your instance and generate a free trial from the License section.
#3 Clearer support info and usability upgrades for admins
Admin Tools (Pro) now allows administrators to view support duration and limits directly from the interface, helping you with planning and renewals. Alongside this, multiple bug fixes and usability enhancements improve reliability and make the tool more intuitive.
💡 Install Admin Tools (Pro), test the updates, and share your feedback on encountered issues.

#4 More stable and user-friendly Diagram and OnlyOffice Connector Apps
Both the Diagram Application (Pro) and the OnlyOffice Connector Application received stability and usability updates in the previous quarter. For OnlyOffice, you now get an additional warning when exiting the editor without saving your changes, helping prevent accidental data loss.
💡 Explore the improved Diagram Application (Pro) and OnlyOffice Connector App.
What’s next
We're preparing for the release of the integration between XWiki and OpenProject. Stay tuned!
Cristal, a new wiki UI
#1 New extension for the XWiki integration
A new Cristal Integration extension has been released to let you seamlessly integrate Cristal with XWiki. With this extension, you can deploy and try Cristal on your XWiki instance without needing deep technical knowledge, making it faster and easier to start using the app.
💡 Take a look at the updated setup instructions for the XWiki back end and get started today.
#2 Improved Markdown storage
Page content in Cristal is now stored in plain Markdown for all supported back ends. This means you can read and edit your content directly in a simple, consistent format, no matter which back end you are using.
💡 Test the new Markdown storage format and tell us what you think.
#3 Macro support in the editor
We are laying the foundations for macro support in the Cristal editor. Soon, you will be able to insert macros into your pages to make your content more dynamic and interactive.
💡 Test the editor and share your feedback as we roll out the first macros!
What’s next
During our annual XWiki seminar, we held a session with the whole team to gather feedback and feature requests for Cristal. The insights we shared with each other will guide us in shaping future Cristal releases.
CryptPad
Accounts redesign launch
We gave the subscription management section of CryptPad.fr a long-overdue makeover. Our plans now include multiple drives that you can assign to users or teams, making it easier to organize and share resources. We also made it more straightforward for you to view and manage benefits like storage and other plan features.
Last but not least, as part of the registration process, you can now select a subscription plan. Choosing the "Free" plan remains an option, of course, but we hope that having to select it explicitly helps highlight that CryptPad relies on subscribers such as yourself to stay sustainable.
💡 Let us know if you have feedback on the new design.

What’s next
We plan to launch the Autumn release at the end of October. Stay tuned!
