How to edit office attachments in XWiki

Many of us are still using office tools to create content. In one of our previous articles, we covered how you can import these documents in XWiki and convert them into wiki pages. But there might be occasions when you need to work with your team directly on an office attachment. This is where the OnlyOffice Connector Application saves the day. It allows you to create and edit DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX attachments using an OnlyOffice server. No more searching for the last version of a document, no more quick-meeting-turned-into-4-hours to add all the information on the quarterly report - everyone can simply add their input, edit it, and share it when done.

As soon as you start using the extension, you will see a new set of buttons in the Attachment tab, as shown below:

You will be able to perform the following actions:

  • Edit the existing office attachments collaboratively, in realtime, by clicking the Edit icon to the right
  • Create new office files (documents, spreadsheets, and presentations).

Although it might not be the most impressive app we have, it's highly used by our clients. Even if all their information is transformed in wiki pages, the documents they exchange with partners, their clients, or contractors are standard office ones, that need to be easily processed, edited, and centralized.

You can try out the app by installing it from the Extension Manager. The extension comes already configured with the XWiki OnlyOffice testing server, so you can test it out easily.
